What preparation is required?

Please discontinue the use of aspirin products, arthritis medication and iron tablets for one week before the examination. Tylenol may be used. For the best possible examination, the colon must be completely empty of waste material, so it is important that you follow the circled instructions set out below very carefully.

A. Colyte®, Nulytely®. Obtain from pharmacy.

1. Entire day before the exam you may have only clear liquids; (i.e., water, tea, juices, broths, jello, and coffee.) But no milk or milk products. Avoid red jello.

2. The night before the exam, drink the 4 liter solution of Colyte® or Nulytely® between 6 and 10 p.m. Solution may be chilled. Take out of refrigerator in the afternoon before exam. It is most important that entire 4 liter bottle be finished.

3. The day of the exam you may have clear liquids before coming to the office.

B. Fleets® Phospho-Soda® Preparation: Obtain 2-1 1/2 oz. bottles from pharmacy (available over the counter).

1. Entire day before the exam you may have clear liquids: (i.e., water, tea, juices, broth, jello, and coffee.) But no milk or milk products. Avoid red jello.

2. 7:00 p.m. night before exam: Add 3 tablespoons of Fleets® Phospho-Soda® to 4 oz. of water and drink. Follow with 8 oz. of water or clear fruit juice.

3. Drink at least 3-8 fl. oz. of clear liquids before retiring.

4. Day of exam: May have clear liquids. 3 hours before exam, add 3 tablespoons of Fleets® Phospho-Soda® to 4 oz. of water and drink. Follow with 8 oz. of water or clear juice.

C. Purchase Fleets® Prep kit #1 and follow instructions.

D. VISICOL TABLET REGIMEN Entire day before the exam you may have only clear liquids; (i.e., water, tea, juices, broths, jello, and coffee.) But no milk or milk products. Avoid red jello. Begin your first dosing regimen the day prior to the exam. Take 4 VISCOLTm Tablets with 8 oz. clear liquid (water, clear carbonated beverage, clear juice, etc.) every 15 minutes. The last dose will be taken with 12 oz. of Ginger Ale. Do not exceed 20 tablets. Begin your second dosing regimen 3-5 hours before the exam. Take the regimen the same way as the day prior to the exam.
